Service fee paid despite cancellation

Our trip from Chios to Lesvos was cancelled due to bad weather. The price of the trip was refunded on the spot in the office on Chios, but not the so-called service fee of 10 euros. The service fee corresponds to the order through the online reservation. Exactly so this should have been refunded as well by automatically crediting it back to my PayPal account. That would be a real service.

We are really sorry that your trip was cancelled due to the bad weather. Kindly note that in case of force majeure like this, the port authorities take this decision a few hours before the trip departure time and the ferry companies inform directly the passengers by SMS. Consequently, in these cases, we are not always informed about such cancelled itineraries. Therefore it is also stated in our terms and conditions, that you accepted before proceeding with this booking, that you need to inform us by email in order to refund you the ticket value for a cancelled itinerary, this is not something that can be done automatically. The same concerns of course the service fees that you paid for the booking. We are happy that you were refunded the total ticket rate at the central office of Blue Star Ferries.
After receiving your review we have now also refunded you the service fee of 10.47 euro to your PayPal account.

We contacted the ferry company Blue Star Ferries, who informed us that the reason your trip on the 11th of September was canceled was due to bad weather and that they sent you an informing text message just before the departure time. When a trip is canceled due to bad weather this is a decision taken by the port authorities a few hours before its departure for your safety. The reason the ferry company told you to go locally to change your ticket was that you already had them printed in your hands so they needed to exchange them with new ones for the next day before facing availability issues. Of course, you could also have selected to cancel them and receive a full refund and buy other tickets for another ferry company if their departure was more convenient. As per the terms and conditions you accepted before proceeding with this booking in case of a canceled itinerary the ferry company is not obliged to proceed with any further refund that may occur apart from the ticket rate. Since you used this refund in order to travel on the next day they are not obliged to any further refunds.
