High-speed vessels are smaller and allow passengers to reach their destinations faster. Conventional ferries are larger and slower, but they also offer cheaper tickets.

Types of seats

Standard/economy seats are the most popular and affordable option. In conventional ferries, these seats are situated on the deck or in internal lounges and they are not numbered, so your ticket does not correspond to a specific seat. Therefore, in order to get a comfortable one, we recommend boarding the ferry as soon as possible.
Another option is the air-type seats, which are located in separate lounges. They are numbered, more comfortable, and the most affordable option among the seats you can reserve. For luxury travel, there are also Business/VIP seats, which are situated in a separate lounge and are more expensive.
In high-speed ferries, there are only numbered seats, so a standard ticket corresponds to an air-type seat.

How to find your ferry in the port of Santorini (Athinios Port)

Athinios, the main port of Santorini

Athinios, the main port of Santorini

All passenger ferries depart from Athinios Port, which is located 8 km from Fira. Its location below the volcanic cliffs makes it one of the most picturesque ports in the Aegean.

Ferries to Milos arrive at Adamantas Port, the main port of Milos, which is located 4 km from Plaka, the island’s capital town.

Both islands are highly popular among Greeks and foreigners alike. The high number of visitors causes traffic around the port, so being there at least 1 hour before the official departure time is strongly recommended.

Luggage

Luggage policies in Greek ferries are quite flexible.
Most companies allow 40 kg or 0.5 cubic meters of luggage per passenger and provide a luggage storage area on each ferry. If you wish, though, you can take your luggage with you to the lounges or the deck (if available).
It is highly recommended that you leave bulky suitcases in the designated area and take only your personal belongings (wallet, keys, mobile phone, etc.) with you upstairs.

Traveling with a car

To take your car or motorbike with you to Milos, you need to purchase a vehicle ticket.
Drivers should be at the port 1 to 1.5 hours before the official departure time.
For safety reasons, entrance to the garage is not allowed during the crossing.
Note: Many car rental companies do not allow customers to ferry their vehicles. We recommend avoiding purchasing a vehicle ticket before contacting your car rental company.

Alternative ways to reach Milos

Even though Milos has an airport, there are no direct flights between the two islands, as the national airport of Milos is only connected to Athens. Thus, the only way to reach the island is by taking the ferry. However, just like Santorini, Mykonos has an international airport receiving direct flights from various European countries, so you can fly to Mykonos and take the ferry from Mykonos to Milos. Alternatively, you could fly to Athens, and sail from Athens to Milos.
