Types of seats

Standard/economy seats are the most popular and affordable option. In conventional ferries, these seats are situated on deck or in internal lounges and are not numbered, so your ticket does not correspond to a specific seat. Therefore, you need to board the ferry as soon as possible to get a comfortable seat. Bear in mind that, in this case, you will have to keep an eye on your seat for the entire journey.
Another option is the airplane seats, which are located in separate lounges. They are more comfortable than economy seats and constitute the most affordable option among numbered seats. For luxury travel, there are also Business/VIP seats, which are situated in a separate lounge and are more expensive.
High-speed ferries only offer numbered seats, so a standard ticket corresponds to an airplane seat.

How to find your ferry in Naxos Port

The port of Naxos

The port of Naxos

All ferries from Naxos to Koufonisia depart from the port of Naxos, which is located on the western side of the island, in the capital town (Chora). The ferry "Skopelitis" of Small Cyclades Lines is the only exception, as it departs from the marina next to the port. In any case, spotting your ferry should be very easy.

Koufonisia is a cluster of two dreamy islands, Ano Koufonisi and the uninhabited Kato Koufonisi. The port is conveniently located in Chora, the capital and only settlement of Ano Koufonisi.

Naxos is widely visited during the summer months, which may cause traffic around the port. For this reason, being there at least 1 hour ahead of the official departure time is strongly recommended.

Luggage

Luggage policies in Greek ferries are quite flexible.
Most companies allow 40 kg or 0.5 cubic meters of luggage per passenger and provide a luggage storage area on each ferry.
If you wish, you can take your luggage to the lounges or the deck (if available). We recommend leaving bulky suitcases in the designated area and taking only your personal belongings (wallet, keys, mobile phone, etc.) with you upstairs.

Traveling with a car

You need to purchase a vehicle ticket to take your car or motorbike with you to Koufonisia.
Drivers should be at the port 1 hour to 1.5 hours before the official departure time.
For safety reasons, entering the garage while the ferry is sailing is prohibited.
Please bear in mind that due to the island’s diminutive size, there is hardly any need for private vehicles in Koufonisia. Once you reach your destination, there will be plenty of alternative ways of moving around, including water taxis, cycling or hiking.
Note: Many car rental companies do not allow customers to ferry their vehicles. We recommend avoiding purchasing a vehicle ticket before contacting your car rental company.

Alternative ways to reach Koufonisia

As there is no airport in Koufonisia, the only way to get there is by taking the ferry.
A popular way of reaching the island is by flying to Athens and taking the ferry from there. However, as the route from Athens to Koufonisia can be long, you can optimize your trip by flying to the Cycladic islands of Mykonos or Santorini, both of which boast an international airport receiving direct flights from several European cities.
