How to find your ferry in the ports of Kefalonia

Kefalonia has 2 ports serving Ithaca.
The one is located in Sami, 26 km from Argostoli, the island’s capital. During the peak season (June - August), the port of Poros in Kefalonia, located 40 km from Argostoli, also serves routes to Ithaca. Both ports are small so spotting your ferry is easy.
In Ithaca, the ferry port lies in Pisaetos, 7 km from the capital, Vathy.
In any case, make sure to arrive at the port at least 1 hour in advance since you may encounter traffic, especially if you are traveling during the high season.

Luggage

Luggage policies in Greek ferries are quite flexible.
Most companies allow 40 kg or 0.5 cubic meters of luggage per passenger and provide a luggage storage area on each ferry. If you wish, though, you can take your luggage with you to the lounges or the deck (if available).
Leaving bulky suitcases in the designated area and carrying only your personal belongings (wallet, keys, mobile phone, etc.) is recommended.

Traveling with a car

You need to purchase a vehicle ticket to take your car or motorbike to Ithaca.
Drivers should be at the port 1 hour to 1.5 hours before the official departure time.
For safety reasons, entering the garage while the ferry is sailing is forbidden.
Note: Many car rental companies do not allow customers to ferry their vehicles. We recommend avoiding purchasing a vehicle ticket before contacting your car rental company.

Alternative ways to reach Ithaca

Ithaca does not have an airport, thus you can only reach the island via ferry. There are routes available from the ports of Patra and Kilini in the Peloponnese and Astakos Port in Western Greece.
Ferries from Patra and Astakos reach Sami while ferries from Kilini arrive at Poros.
