The Governments of Greece and Cyprus are talking over the creation of a new ferry line between the two countries. The Cypriot Minister of Communications and Transportations declared that they are examining every possibility and evaluating the economic resources. He also added that a ferry between Cyprus and Greece would boost tourism and build a strong commercial relation. This relation would also increase the chances to export products to Europe and the Middle East.
Now Greece and Cyprus are connected only by plane. It has been more than a decade since the regular ferry of Salamis Lines stopped its scheduled trips in 2002. This ferry line was linking Rhodes in Greece to Limassol in Cyprus and Haifa Israel. The other ferry line that sailed once per week in summer from Piraeus to Limassol also stopped some years ago.
